Blog #1: Drosophila Melanogaster

COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED ON THIS POST. TO TURN THIS POST IN LATE, PLEASE ANSWER THE QUESTION ON A SHEET OF PAPER AND TURN IT IN TO MRS. RAWSON.

Today in class, we watched a video about the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster). Over the next nine weeks, you will get very familiar with these organisms as we breed flies with different traits and observe their offspring.

For this blog, answer the following question in at least 3 complete sentences:

Why do scientists use Drosophila melanogaster for their research, and what types of questions or problems are these organisms being used to answer?

This blog assignment is due Monday, January 12.
