Behavior Policy
This year in science, there are LOTS of labs and fun activities planned for you. All of these activities are designed so that you get the most out of your time in science class.
Because our science class is equipped with technology and materials to help you succeed, and because our labs and activities often involve expensive equipment, misbehavior that may be considered “minor” in other classes is a bigger deal in science. Rules like no eating or drinking in class, or staying in your seat unless you have permission to get up, are there for your safety and the safety of others – NOT because the teacher is trying to pick on you or be unfair.
Behavior expectations in science are high. Failing to follow the rules will result in your removal from the scheduled lab or activity. Once removed, you will be given an alternate assignment which will count as your grade for the day.
All rules and procedures will be discussed in class. For minor offenses, students will have their name written on the board. This is their warning. After a second offense, a check will be placed by the student’s name – this means the student will serve lunch detention (silent lunch, where the student is not allowed to purchase chips or cookies). A third offense will result in removal from the activity and parent contact. A fourth offense will result in an office referral. Please note that although this course of action will be followed for most minor offenses, the teacher has the discretion to modify consequences for repeat offenders or more serious infractions.
