About the Course

GENERAL COURSE OVERVIEW

The 7th grade science curriculum in North Carolina concentrates on four main topics: atmosphere and weather, force and motion, genetics and heredity, and human body systems. We will spend approximately nine weeks on each subject. In addition and throughout the year, we will be studying elements of scientific investigation and technological design. These will help us to not only understand science concepts, but also to understand the science processes that can be applied in all areas of life.

MY GOALS FOR THE COURSE

My number one goal for the students this year is that they learn to “think like scientists,” equipped with the curiosity to ask questions about the world around them and the tools to answer those questions. Science at its best is interactive and communal, and I hope to create a classroom environment that values creativity, teamwork, and respect. Since hands-on activities and labs will be frequent, ensuring the safety of all students will be a priority. To that end, all students will be trained in lab safety techniques, and any students who cannot follow safety and behavior procedures during an activity will be given an alternate assignment.
